Imagine you’re trading in a car that has a trade-in value of $5,000, but you currently owe $7,000 on the vehicle. This means you have negative equity of $2,000. When you trade-in a vehicle with negative equity, you may have the option of paying the dealer the outstanding $2,000 or the option to roll the negative equity into your new vehicle financing loan.
